FIRST INTO THE FUTURE!
In the late '70s into the '80s, middleweight motorcycles ruled the roost. Each of the big 4 Japanese manufacturers had multiple entries in the 400-600cc segment; Honda needed a standout contender into this hotly contended market and they delivered. The CX500 was a radical, innovative departure from the norm, starting with the powerplant. An 80 degree, longitudinally-mounted, liquid-cooled V-Twin with 4 valves per cylinder put out 48hp at 9,000rpm earned a reputation for bulletproof reliability. The CX500 also featured electric-only start, low maintenance shaft-drive, and, thanks to the ComStar wheels, it was the first motorcycle to feature tubeless tires. All of these features, plus Honda's legendary build quality, made the CX500 a popular motorcycle for the cafe racer craze of the 2000s. Now finding a low-mileage, unmolested original CX500 is a rare find.
