One of just 38 built in this configuration, it is a special vehicle not usually found in the United States, representing a special opportunity.
MODEL HISTORY
The "Perentie" is the nickname given to the Land Rover 110 produced for the Australian Army. It is named after the Perentie Trials, which was the official Australian Army trial used to select new 1 and 2-tonne light vehicles. The Perentie is based on the Defender 110 and features a widened rear chassis to allow placement of the rear tire under the load area. It also received a galvanized chassis and an Isuzu engine (3.9L 4BD1 in this example). The Perentie has proven to be a highly capable and reliable vehicle, serving in a variety of theaters around the world, including Australia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, the Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. Just 38 Perenties were built in the particular configuration of Truck, CarryAll, Lightweight, Troop Carrier, MC2.
The Perentie is a testament to the durability and off-road capability of the Land Rover Defender. It is a truly unique and special vehicle.
CONDITION
In the Australian Army, vehicles are assigned to particular units and stay with that Unit for the vehicle's tenure. These Units are also responsible for maintaining the vehicles they rely upon. As a result, Australian Army vehicles generally exhibit excellent condition. This Land Rover is no exception and is impressive for a military vehicle of this age. The exterior is excellent, with no notable blemishes and no evidence of accident or bodywork. The paint has an appropriate patina and the camouflaged top fits well. Interior rubber, plastic, and vinyl are all in excellent condition. The seats are in great condition with no rips, tears, or stains. The cargo area exhibits light signs of use and is in excellent condition. Underhood, the 4-cylinder Isuzu diesel runs excellent, developing strong power throughout the rev range. The transmission shifts well, slotting into gear easily. Underneath, the frame and underbody are impressively straight and clean. There is insignificant surface rust in isolated areas, but nothing compromises the integrity or function of any components. While the vehicle condition is consistent with its low mileage and kilometers, this vehicle has a TMU title due to age and importation.
